Choose the right island

Each island has its own driving conditions: Tenerife and Gran Canaria include mountain switchbacks, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have broad open landscapes, and the western islands can have especially winding roads.

Airport pickup and ferries

Verify the supplier's pickup point, opening hours and whether inter-island ferry travel is permitted. A rental agreement on one island does not automatically authorize taking that vehicle to another.

Mountain roads and seasonal conditions

Plan around elevation changes, visibility and weather. Avoid unnecessary night driving on unfamiliar narrow mountain roads; check official island road notices before trips into remote areas.
